This spring, it seems like a disproportionate number of my friends and family are making big changes. Everyone seems to be moving houses, remodeling kitchens, or relandscaping their property. All this commotion has been inspiring us to improve our collection of great house-warming gifts. We've been scouring Santa Barbara for what kind of house-warming and "new kitchen blessing" gifts we ought to have on hand for our own gifting needs as well as for our customers.
While my instinct is often times to show up with olive oil or chocolate truffles and a bottle of wine like I would for any party, my mom insists that house warming gifts ought to be more permanent. As always, she's probably right.
Here's a few great ideas we've come up with to delight your friends and family and bring them happiness over the years. I'd love to hear what your favorite house warming gifts are! Share your thoughts at the bottom of the page.
1) Owl garden stake. This handsome fella is hand-crafted in Santa Barbara's funk zone by the great welding artist Barbara Larson. He's a super sweet and very local addition to a garden's greenery. He can dress up a pot or a bed of vegetables with equal ease.
I may be biased on this one because I had the great pleasure of participating in the design process for these beautiful pieces. While at Artisanal LA, an amazing event showcasing small batch artisans and vendors, I met the ceramicist at Clay and Fabric and immediately knew I wanted to work with her. We came up with the Spanish lattice inspired together and she painstakingly hand-stenciled and dotted these pieces at her studio in Pasadena. We feel like they are quintessential Santa Barbara and so unique! They're exclusives here at The Santa Barbara Company and we're proud to have them.
This is my first choice for the cook! A little of everything Santa Barbara makes this gift basket a local classic. Incredible local cooking herbs, award-winning estate grown local olive oil, a surf-inspired maple cutting board & Spanish tile coasters. You can always substitute other Ojai Olive Oil favorites in place of the Andalucian Olive Oil that we generally include. Basil Olive Oil, Fig Balsamic Vinegar, and Lemon Olive Oil are some of the favorites. We're proud of this one!
A great choice here in Santa Barbara where coastal decor always makes sense. These little planter pots are hand-thrown, hand-dipped and blessed with "barnacles." We have them available planted with succulents or not. Call ahead and we'll have one ready for you the next time you need a hostess gift.
Choose from San Ysidro, Montecito, Mission Rose or Padaro Beach fragrances. These apothecary style jars are classy candle vessels. Plus, with ninety hours of luscious burn time, they are practically permanent.
