This quarter, Santa Barbara Company is proud to make our primary impact partner the California non-profit organization Planting Justice.
Planting Justice's mission is to empower people impacted by mass incarceration and other social inequities with the skills and resources to cultivate food sovereignty, economic justice, and community healing.
They work to address the structural inequalities embedded in the industrialized food system, provide living-wage green jobs to people transitioning from prison and work with San Francisco Bay Area high schools to develop food justice curricula. Their holistic re-entry program supports marginalized communities by beginning to train prisoners in permaculture gardening before they even make parole.
Since 2009 Planting Justice has built over 550 edible permaculture gardens in the San Francisco Bay Area.
You can learn more about their nursery by watching the video below and more about their programs by visiting their website plantingjustice.org.
