Artist Kate Joiner captures gorgeous beach scenes on the Southern California coast, where she explores rolling hills next to the serenity of the Pacific Ocean. She paints upside down, which she finds makes it easier to focus on shapes instead of objects. Her colors are always bold and whimsical. When she first was studying art, she fell in love with "The Fauves" and expressionism and even though it doesn't show in her work, it certainly can explain a lot about the unexpected color she uses. She rarely paints details because she loves to leave things "suggested" and let the viewer complete the painting in their mind.
